| Anders Celsius, a mathematical prodigy, became professor of astronomy in 1730. He aquired fame with his observations of the aurea borealis. Today Celsius is best known for his temperature scale. In 1742 he stated two fundamental points for determining temperature degrees:" the freezing point of water at 100 degrees and the boiling point at 0 degrees". It was the famous Swedish botanist Linneaus who inverted the scale! |
