Copernicus was born in Torún [Thorn] in 1473. In Cracow he studied philosophy, medecine, astronomy and mathematics. During his stays in Italy he studied medicine in Padua and church law in Bologna and Ferrara. From 1506 to 1512 he worked at Heilsberg castle as a physician. Soon afterwards he became canon at the Chapter in Frombork [Frauenburg], where he lived most of the time until his death in 1543, the very year his "revolutionary" book appeared in print. In between he lived for 4 years at Olsztyn zamek [Allenstein castle]
