The series of Cologne Twente Workshops started with meetings organized every two years by the universities of Cologne and Twente.
Due to increased interest in these workshops the organizational base was expanded by the Politecnico di Milano and the University Duisburg-Essen joining the circle of organizers. Since 2003 the workshop is held every year.
